Ingredients:
- 1 cup tur dal/ Kandi pappu
- 3 green chilies, chopped in small size
- 1 small onion, chopped in small size
- 2 tomato, chopped in small size
- 2 tsp red chilli powder
- Salt as per taste
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 2 drops oil
- 2 ½ glasses of water
- 1 cup koyagura/Amaranth
For thadaka:
- 3 tsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 3 dry red chilies
- 1 small onion, chopped in small size
- Few curry leaves
- 5 garlic, crushed
- Few mint leaves
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp hing
- Few coriander leaves
Preparation of koyagura pappu/ Amaranth Red dal with step-by-step instructions and video:
- Wash the dal, add green chilies, onions, tomatoes, red chili powder, salt, turmeric, oil, water and koyagura to it and mix everything together
- Pressure cook for 5 whistles
- After pressure leaves open the lid mix completely and add hot water to it, mix and boil for a minute
For thadaka:
- Heat the oil in a pan
- Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and garlic and mix them
- Add dry red chilies and curry leaves mix them
- Add onion and fry them until onion gets transparent
- Add mint leaves, turmeric and hing to it and mix everything
- Add cooked dal to it and mix everything and cook for a while
- Add coriander leaves and turn off the flame
That's it koyagura pappu is ready to serve
