Koyya thotakura or koyagura is also known as Amaranth Red. It is one of the thotakura(Amaranth) family. It tastes yummy and perfect for a dal recipe. These Amaranth leaves easy on the digestive system these leaves are offered to those canvalescing after an illness or those who are fasting.

So before it gets to late let's learn the simplest way of making koyagura pappu with ingredients and preparation of dal

Koyagura pappu  or Amaranth Red dal consume time is:

Ingredients: 

  1. 1 cup tur dal/ Kandi pappu 
  2. 3 green chilies, chopped in small size 
  3. 1 small onion, chopped in small size 
  4. 2 tomato, chopped in small size
  5. 2 tsp red chilli powder 
  6. Salt as per taste 
  7. ½ tsp turmeric powder 
  8. 2 drops oil
  9. 2 ½  glasses of water
  10. 1 cup koyagura/Amaranth

For thadaka:

  1. 3 tsp oil
  2. 1 tsp mustard seeds 
  3. 1 tsp cumin seeds 
  4. 3 dry red chilies 
  5. 1 small onion, chopped in small size 
  6. Few curry leaves 
  7. 5 garlic, crushed 
  8. Few mint leaves 
  9. 1 tsp turmeric powder 
  10. 1 tsp hing
  11. Few coriander leaves 

Preparation of koyagura pappu/ Amaranth Red dal with step-by-step instructions and video:

  1. Wash the dal, add green chilies, onions, tomatoes, red chili powder, salt, turmeric, oil, water and koyagura to it and mix everything together 
  2. Pressure cook for 5 whistles 
  3. After pressure leaves open the lid mix completely and add hot water to it, mix and boil for a minute 

For thadaka:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan 
  2. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and garlic and mix them
  3. Add dry red chilies and curry leaves mix them
  4. Add onion and fry them until onion gets transparent 
  5. Add mint leaves, turmeric and hing to it and mix everything 
  6. Add cooked dal to it and mix everything and cook for a while 
  7. Add coriander leaves and turn off the flame 

That's it koyagura pappu is ready to serve
