Bottle gourd is extremely low in saturated fats and cholesterol and is rich in water and nutrients required to lose fat from the body. It contains essential nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin B, vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin E, iron, folate, magnesium and potassium. A 200gram of bottle gourd contains 25 calories approximately. 


It is non-spicy curry and I want something different from the routine, here is a nice recipe. This is a must-try recipe, the taste was awesome and if you try this recipe you will add it as one of the recipes in a week.


Bottle gourd in milk has a nice balanced taste and is easy on the stomach. My mom used to prepare this recipe. It goes well with Chapathi, rice and also roti. 


Nowadays all are saying we should eat more curry and less rice, but we cannot do it and also we cannot eat more quantities of spicy, oily curries. I promise you this is one curry that you can eat in big quantities and you won't feel full.

Bottle gourd recipe step-by-step instructions


Ingredients:

  1. 300 grams lauki/Bottle gourd 

  2. 2 tsp of oil

  3. 1 tsp of mustard seeds 

  4. 1 tsp of cumin seeds 

  5. 2 sprigs curry leaves 

  6. 1 medium-size onion chopped 

  7. 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste 

  8. 2 tsp of sesame seeds

  9. 15 green chillies 

  10. 1 tsp of turmeric 

  11. 1 and 1/2 tsp salt or as per taste

  12. 1 tsp of coriander powder

  13. 200 ml of milk 


Other preparations:

  1. Peel the skin of the bottle gourd and cut it into pieces 

  2. Dry roast the sesame seed 


Preparation:

  1. Grind the roasted sesame seeds and add green chillies and salt to make a thin paste.

  2. Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed vessel 

  3. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves fry until they splutter.

  4. Add onions fry until they soften, add ginger garlic paste and turmeric powder give a mix and cook for 1 minute or until raw smell goes 

  5. Add sesame seeds and green chilli paste to it and mix it and cook until aroma comes out

  6. Add bottle gourd pieces to it and mix well until lauki gets softened, close the lid with water on it because it doesn't stick to the vessel and also cooks fast.

  7. Add coriander powder and mix it well

  8. Add milk to it and mix well.

  9. Add chopped coriander leaves and turn off the flame.

1. Is it necessary to add sesame seeds? No, it is not necessary but it enhances the taste of the recipe and gives a great aroma

2. Is it necessary to add milk? Milk adds extra flavour to the curry. And add milk after turning off the flame, so that the milk doesn't break.
