Tomato rasam with step by step instructions:
South Indias do not feel fulfilled until they eat at least a couple of spoonfuls of rice with rasam in every meal. There are so many varieties of Rasam.
I am sharing a simple rasam recipe for Tomatoes that everyone can prepare
Take ripe red Tomatoes for this rasam, if you are using hybrid tomatoes then you need to take a little more tomatoes or more tamarind juice for sourness. Here I am using homemade rasam powder for rasam that gives a lot of taste and aroma to that rasam.

Main ingredients: tomatoes, rasam powder

Ingredients:
6 tomatoes
4 tsp of oil
1 tsp of turmeric
2 sprigs curry leaves
1 tsp of mustard seeds
1 tsp of cumin seeds
2 red chillies
1 big size onion chopped
1/4 cup of coriander leaves
2 tsp of homemade rasam powder
5 garlic crushed
5 inches of tamarind or according to the sourness of tomatoes
Other preparations:
Boil the tomatoes or pressure cooker the tomatoes and tamarind juice we need to add according to the sourness of the tomatoes, add few drops of oil and turmeric powder
Cook until the tomatoes soften or cook up to 2 whistles.
Preparation of rasam:
After pressure goes squeeze out the water through a strainer
Repeat the process by using water until the tomatoes turn into pulp
Pour 300 ml of water into it
Add chopped onions mix well
If you want to add Jaggery and mix well it gives a balanced taste.
For seasoning or Thadaka:
Heat oil in a pan
Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dried red chillies, curry leaves, hing and turmeric, fry until they splutter.
For Boiling the rasam:
Add Thadaka to the tomato rasam
Switch on the flame of the tomato rasam and Boiling to a boil
Add homemade rasam powder to it and boil for another 2 minutes
Add coriander leaves and Switch off the flame.

FAQ
- Do we need to use ripe tomatoes only? No, we can use any tomatoes but if it is ripe tomatoes taste enhances the rasam.
- Do we need to boil tomatoes? Not necessarily you can use it directly without boiling.
