Sorakaya karapapalu/sorakaya chekkalu/bottle gourd vada/lauki vada with step by step instructions

Bottle gourd is extremely low in saturated fats and cholesterol and is rich in water and nutrients required to lose fat from the body. It contains essential nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin B, vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin E, iron, folate, magnesium and potassium. For 200gram of bottle gourd contains 25 calories approximately. 

Boring breakfast and thinking of breakfast what to do just try this recipe it is the perfect morning breakfast and also for snacks. It is a fussy morning and tired of last night then it is the correct recipe and easy to prepare, will be soft for 24 hours. Bottle gourd has water content and when mixed with rice flour it tastes yummy.

My mother prepared this recipe I copied for her, and it goes well with curd and also dal mainly with pesara pappu/green gram with tomato or bottle gourd also.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup grated sorakaya/bottle gourd/lauki
  2. 2 cup rice flour approximately 
  3. 1 big size onion
  4. 5 green chillies
  5. 2-inch ginger
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Oil for deep fry
  8. 20 ml water if required 

  • Polythene cover or old oil packet 


Other preparation:

  1. Grate the bottle gourd/sorakaya/lauki and add to a mixing bowl 
  2. Grind the onion, green chiles and ginger it should be a thick paste, now add the paste to the grated bottle gourd/ sorakaya/lauki 
  3. Add salt to it 
  4. Add rice flour to that and knead the dough
  5. Don't add rice flour at a time, Add a small portion of rice flour to the grated bottle gourd 
  6. And make the dough by adding a little amount of water
  7. Knead it softly for 2 minutes 
  8. Add few drops of oil to a dough and knead it
  9. Rest it for 5 minutes, not more than that 


Preparation of sorakaya karapapalu/ sorakaya chekkalu: 

  1. Heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed kadai for deep fry
  2. Take a small amount of dough and make small balls according to the size of the karapapalu
  3. Take a polythene cover or old oil packet and apply oil to it and Press the dough as a puri with a rolling pin or with hand by taking small oil to the hand 
  4. Take or remove from the cover and place it in a kadai cook for a while, turn another side and cook for a while same like puri we do deep fry maintain flame high to medium
  5. Remove from the oil and place it on tissue paper to remove excess oil from the karapapalu
  6. Repeat the same process for the remaining dough
  7. That's it sorakaya karapapalu is ready to serve, here I am serving with curd and sprinkle pinch of karam podi on the top of the curd

FAQ:

  1. Do we need to deep fry this recipe? You can also shallow fry this recipe but it stays for longer. We need to consume it within 3 to 4 hours.
  2. Do we need green chillies? You can add red chilli powder also instead of green chillies.
